Workshop BaSyx Quick Start Guide

Industrie 4.0 and digitalization offer many opportunities, but at the same time also entail many challenges. How can Industrie 4.0 be implemented easily using Asset Administration Shells as Digital Twins?

With Eclipse BaSyx, Fraunhofer IESE offers an open-source software solution that enables the implementation of Industrie 4.0 and Asset Administration Shells quickly and with little effort.

To facilitate entry into the world of Asset Administration Shells with Eclipse BaSyx, Fraunhofer IESE as one of the main drivers of the software is offering a three-hour workshop. In it, participants are given an overview and are shown with simple examples how to use the different components and features. Practical code examples are used to demonstrate the interrelationships and make them tangible by means of simple example applications.

The content conveyed in the workshop enables the participants to quickly and easily implement the concepts and components shown in their own companies and thus realize their own solutions with Eclipse BaSyx.

Eclipse BaSyx Quick Start Guide - Workshop Videos

1. BaSyx Introduction

This chapter briefly introduces Asset Administration Shells as a specified form of Digital Twins. It explains the link to the responsible organizations and the role of Eclipse BaSyx, a middleware for implementing I4.0 use cases.

2. BaSyx OTS Components

There exist multiple off-the-shelf components based on the Eclipse BaSyx Java implementation that can be used as a foundation for realizing Industrie 4.0 use cases. In this video, the main OTS components are introduced. It explains how to start the components and configure their features using property files or environment variables.

3. BaSyx Code Examples

Eclipse BaSyx consists of multiple SDKs that can be utilized as a library to implement Industrie 4.0 applications. This video goes through some common code examples based on the Java SDK. It also demonstrates how to configure and run the previously shown OTS components programmatically.

4. BaSyx – Extended Usage

The final video in this series showcases two additional application scenarios. First, a Streamsheets integration from the example repository is illustrated. Second, the video shows one way of utilizing the DataBridge, a new component currently in development, in combination with MQTT events.
