Experience Industry 4.0 - use cases
Kickoff of the BaSys Roadshow in Berlin
Yesterday, the official opening of Fraunhofer IESE's BaSys Roadshow took place on the HTW campus in Berlin, followed by a Kick-Off Event. More than 50 representatives from business, science and politics had the opportunity to experience the Eclipse BaSyx middleware in practical use in various Industry 4.0 use cases. Among others, HTW Berlin and the companies Schneider Electric and EAW presented how they use the potential of BaSyx. At the subsequent Kick-off Event, participants were able to engage in intensive discussions with users and the Industry 4.0 experts from Fraunhofer IESE at the roadshow exhibition.
The event began with welcoming remarks by representatives of the BMBF and DLR, followed by the director of IESE, Prof. Dr. Peter Liggesmeyer, and the president of HTW Berlin, Prof. Dr. Annabella Rauscher-Scheibe.
Dr. Thomas Kuhn, Division Manager Embedded Systems at Fraunhofer IESE, gave an overview of the goals achieved by the BaSys funding projects, while Kai Garrels (ABB and Plattform Industrie 4.0) explained how BaSys supports the standardization of Digital Twins. Dr. Christian Mosch from the IDTA (Industrial Digital Twin Association) spoke about the acceptance of Administration Shells as Digital Twins.
A panel discussion on the challenges and potential of Digital Twins rounded off the program. The panel participants included Kai Garrels, Mathias Kaldenhoff (SAP), Marc Kleff (NetApp), Matthias Mieves (Member of the German Bundestag) and Prof. Sylvia Thun (BIH-Charité).
Marc Kleff, Director Solutions Engineering at NetApp, has been a project partner in the BaSys projects for many years; at the opening event in Berlin, he described the advantages of the Industry 4.0 middleware as follows: "Over the next twelve months, the roadshow will bring the topic of Industry 4.0 to the regions with the BaSys funding project. This is so important because, with Eclipse BaSyx, we have created a platform with an intelligent architecture that makes Digital Twins easy to use and easy to operate for companies in a highly flexible and highly scalable way."
BaSys on site - the journey continues
The aim of the roadshow is to network various interest groups - from technical experts and current users to potential users - and to make the implementation of Industry 4.0 use cases with Eclipse BaSyx tangible using practical examples in the various regions.
Each station will focus on a different topic and offer an insight into the potential of middleware. In addition to demonstrations, there will also be interactive workshops and ample opportunity for exchange.
After the Kick-Off in Berlin, the roadshow will make stops in several cities until September 2025, including Augsburg, Hannover, Kaiserslautern, Munich, Saarbrücken, Scharnhausen (greater Stuttgart area), Ulm and Weinheim.
