The project VALU3S stands for “Verification and Validation (V&V) of Automated Systems’ Safety and Security”. The aim of VALU3S is to design, implement, and evaluate state-of-the-art V&V methods and tools that reduce the effort in terms of time and cost for the verification and validation of automated systems with regard to safety, cyber security, and data protection requirements.
In order to bring automated systems to market, it must be ensured that these new systems are also safe, secure, and reliable. Taking into account requirements such as safety, cyber security, and data protection, the systems must be verified and validated accordingly. The high complexity of automated systems causes an overhead for the V&V process, which makes it very time-consuming and costly. In the project VALU3S, a framework is being designed that will contain detailed information on all components involved in the V&V process. This information will be used to simplify the process – saving costs and time. In addition, the framework is to have the ability to identify deficits in the domain in order to develop suitable V&V concepts.
In this project, Fraunhofer IESE is working on solutions for the early virtual validation of product features. For this purpose, the institute’s own simulation and validation tool FERAL is being expanded and applied and validated in an industrial case study in the field of automation technology.
