With the Debeka Performance app, the insurance company Debeka has an application software in use for which there are a five-digit number of app store reviews. These contain an enormous amount of information, but it is no longer possible to manually review this efficiently. The “Debeka Innovation Center” therefore initiated a cooperation with Fraunhofer IESE to introduce automated analyses with the “User Echo Service”, the CrowdRE tool of Fraunhofer IESE.
The crowd refers to a large number of product users who interact with each other online, for example via rating portals. CrowdRE (Crowd-based Requirements Engineering) is about using the data potential and gaining a competitive edge through automated analyses.
The analysis covered different perspectives, such as the frequency of emotions, topics, and commented quality features, which enabled a detailed and in-depth picture of the users’ perception of the app.
On the one hand, the results confirmed the assumptions of the Debeka staff, but on the other hand, assumptions could be substantiated with figures and new insights could be provided. The information obtained on suggestions for improvement, ideas for innovations, and popular functions can thus be taken into account in further development. As an innovative company, Debeka will now be able to respond even better to customer wishes, as these can be combined efficiently.
